The Pretenders ninth studio album, Break Up The Concrete, will have a limited run of ecologically-friendly packaging with handmade seed paper starting on the album's release date of October 7. This paper can be planted and, with care, may sprout in 1 to 4 weeks. The paper used on this plantable run, and the paper for subsequent non-plantable runs of the CD and vinyl configuration, has all been certified by the FSC, an independent, non-governmental, not for profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world's forests. The vinyl version of the album, to be released on September 23, is two 10" discs with a gatefold, die-cut to shape and debossed with concrete texture with a full Album CD in Mini Jacket
The ecological packaging should come as no surprise to anyone who has followed the career of the Pretenders front woman Chrissie Hynde, who has always been on the forefront of ecological issues and humane treatment of animals.

Russian Circles recently release their new record called "Station" and it is incredible. Brian plays bass in the band and recently took some time to answer our silly questions. Thanks a lot Brian and congrats on the great new record!
What is your name and your role in the band?
Brian. I play bass and live hundreds of miles away from everybody else, making my role generally one of inconvenience.
Your music has been described as heavy and spacey. How do you describe
your band's style and approach to making music?
Mike sits in his room and writes a bunch of guitar parts. then him and dave go to the space and completely change everything and restructure the material about a hundred times. then i come in and throw in my two cents. whatever we're left over with becomes the end product.
Growing up, did you want to be a musician?
I wanted to be a professional skateboarder, but I really sucked at it and hated getting hurt. playing guitar seemed pretty cool. but I didn't think I could handle 6 strings. the bass seemed a bit more
within my reach. once I picked it up, it was an instant and torrid love affair.

See uncensored video from the riots @ the RNC in St. Paul/Minneapolis blacked out by the mainstream media, agit-prop from the protests on Wall Street, footage by The Yes Men, and much more.
Earlier this month the mainstream media took the bait from the Republicans, and people were duped into believing that the RNC was delayed because of Hurricaine Gustav. Uh huh.. yeah right..
The real reason for the delay in convention commencement is that police riots broke out all over Minneapolis / St. Paul. (www.theuptake.org) Tens of thousands of people came to the twin cities for a week of protests against the war in Iraq, and the policies of the republicans. The police caused riots infringed on the civil liberties of the protestors, but also hundreds of bystanders were caught in the mass arrests including dozens of mainstream and indie journalists. The national media stood by complicitly by covering the snooze fest inside the convention walls while ignoring what was happening in the streets. People were arrested without cause, detained without charges, and in some cases tortured in jail. Running battles in the streets were commonplace, with the clouds of teargas and hail of rubber bullets almost impossible to ignore. Now that all the ballyhoo is settling down, the pieces of the story are all coming clearly into view. Get a peek of some footage collected by independent videographers at the special LOST FILM FEST event at the Gershwin Hotel on September 30th to see what the mainstream corporate media isn't telling you.
Additionally people are furious with the idea of Wall Street getting a free ride with this bailout. Naomi Klein says the public should be wary of the Bush administration trying to use the crisis to push through more of the radical pro-corporate policies that helped cause it in the first place. take a peek: http://www.democracynow.org/2008/9/24/naomi_klein_now_is_the_time

| Thanks to Hardy for taking the time for us recently. Dead Confederate's debut full length is called "Wrecking Ball" and is out now on the TAO label. It is brilliant - be sure to check them out as they are currently touring. What is your name and your role in the band? Your music has been described as dark and emotional. How do you describe your band’s style and approach to making music?
