From the press release: KEXP DJs Riz, Masa and Special Guest Suntzu Sound celebrate MLK Jr. with live Expansions broadcast at Neumo's
KEXP 90.3 FM/KEXP.ORG, Seattle’s eclectic music radio station announces a live broadcast of the long standing electronic music program, Expansions (Sundays, 9pm-midnight). For the fifth straight year, KEXP Expansions DJs will celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. on the weekend of his birthday holiday, Sunday, January 18th with a live broadcast of Expansions from Neumo's at 925 Pike Street on Capitol Hill.
The first year we did this broadcast “we discovered that the spirit of Dr. King and his vision of people coming together celebrating their own part in his dream, even as an innocuous dance party from three DJs who represent different backgrounds and generations, is vibrant and fluidly alive. People don't just dance, they cheer his words when they hear them, and they embrace each other, even tearfully. It's a marvelous thing to witness.”
The evening promises to provide an electric and inspirational atmosphere with a joyous crowd. The party begins at 8pm with the live broadcast running from 9pm through midnight. All three DJs will continue with the celebration until 2 am. Admission is $5 at the door, but free to KEXP Card Carying Members .
