Barsuk to release solo album from Ra Ra Riot bassist

Barsuk is pleased to announce the debut full-length release from Mathieu Santos, founding member and bass player of chamber-pop quintet Ra Ra Riot. Massachusetts 2010 will be available on August 2, 2011 digitally and in a limited edition of 500 hand-numbered white vinyl LPs, 30 of which will randomly include a hand-drawn illustration from Mat himself. The album will also be available on 100 very limited-edition cassettes via Working Man Records, and a previously-announced 7" single featuring a non-album b-side will be available via Old Flame Records. Spin Magazine is hosting a free download of the first single I Can Hear The Trains Coming.

New EP coming from The Hush Now

Boston-based band, The Hush Now, have announced the release date of a new EP called Shiver Me Starships". The EP will be available for free download on 9/28 from their website www.thehushnow.com.

Boston-based indie popsters The Hush Now has announced the release of their new EP, Shiver Me Starships, the follow-up to their successful album Constellations. The EP is scheduled for release on September 28th, at which point it will be available as a free download on their website. The band has already seen significant buzz, thanks to early radio support on both sides of the Atlantic with their last album Constellations. It charted in the CMJ Top 50, received some Morning Becomes Eclectic love, as well as from BBC’s Radio 6, drawing comparisons to such influential artists as My Bloody Valentine, Guided By Voices, The Cure, and more. The album was recorded with David Newton of the The Mighty Lemon Drops in LA- the studio flooded on the first day of recording, which might have appeared to be a bad omen, yet came to serve as an unconventional good luck charm; the rest of the recording went flawlessly, resulting in the successful production of an amazing album.
 
Furiously touring across the US in support of their previous release, their shows led them down to SXSW 2010, where they played no less than 6 showcases throughout the week. With the tour wrapped, The Hush Now returned to the studio to begin work on Shiver Me Starships, which they self-produced and plan to release for free on their website. 
 
The EP was mixed by Benny Grotto (The Dresden Dolls), and mastered by Jeff Lipton (Arcade Fire, Magnetic Fields). The Hush Now is currently planning a full U.S tour in support of the release, then will be headed back to the studio to work on their 
forthcoming full-length, due out in the Spring.

The Weepies: new record, tour and video

The Weepies have announced their first tour in four years. Their new record is called "Be My Thrill" and will be released on 8/31. They will be in Chicago on 10/30.

The Weepies - Deb Talan and Steve Tannen - opted out of touring behind their last album to enjoy their new family and have since stayed in the spotlight with over 100 licensing placements across various major network TV shows and blockbuster movies to date. This time around, the couple hits the road with their two kids in tow.

After meeting in a Cambridge folk club 9 years ago, The Weepies earned legions of adoring fans through years of non-stop touring, including sold-out dates around the country at venues like Philadelphia's World Café Live, LA's Hotel Café, NYC's Canal Room, and Boston's Paradise. The band also sold out three consecutive shows at Cambridge's Club Passim within minutes of their announcement.

"In 2006 we started out just the two of us, driving to shows in our old Toyota packed like a sausage, playing coffeehouses," remembers Steve. By mid-summer we were at the Oxegen Festival in Ireland... The crowd swelled to maybe 1,500, totally packed... We ended with a sold out tour of the east coast of the US with a full band. An amazing and totally exhausting year!"

Video: The Avett Brothers make a video

News from The Avett Brothers includes the making of a new video, the Live Volume 3 CD and a bunch of tour dates. They will be in Chicago on 8/14.

This past month The Avett Brothers released an animated video for “Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise” which premiered on NPR Music’s All Songs Considered blog.  Comprised of artwork painted by Jason Ryan Mitchum and inspired by notable modern artists such as Phillipe Halsman and William Kentridge, the video displays the importance of fine art in The Avett Brothers’ work, furthermore demonstrated by Scott Avett’s burgeoning art career.  His own original artwork, “Julianne in Vain”, served as the cover art for The Avett Brothers’ 2009 American/Columbia release, I and Love and You.

 

The video, which NPR explains, "shows the rise, fall and inevitable decay of rampant urban development" which is shown through a series of over 2,500 paintings which comprise the animation for the video. In the below link on the Making of Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise" artist Jason Ryan Mitchum and Scott Avett lend their comentary to explain the symbolic nature of the the video and the arduous process that went into it's creation (ten alterations to the painting equaled one second of film.)

The Avett Brothers will release Live, Volume 3 on CD and DVD on October 5, 2010. Recorded on August 8, 2009 at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, NC, Live, Volume 3 will feature material culled from their decade-long career including their most recent, critically acclaimed album I and Love and You.  

 

Live, Volume 3 DVD is comprised of highlights from the Bojangles Coliseum, shot in HD and mixed by Ryan Hewitt, the engineer/mixer of I and Love and You.  Additionally, the DVD will include documentary-style episodes, interspersed with interviews from the band and fans in attendance.  The Live, Volume 3 CD will be comprised of a selection of songs from the Charlotte performance. Jimmy Eat World tour dates

Jimmy Eat World announced their tour dates in support of the upcoming record. All of the dates are listed below - they will be in Chicago on 10/7.

Acclaimed rock band Jimmy Eat World announce a headlining North American tour kicking off September 21st in Atlanta, GA.  The band will tour in support of their forthcoming new album Invented which is slated for a September 28th release on DGC/Interscope. Fellow Phoenix resident Courtney Marie Andrews, who sings backing vocals on several tracks on Invented will be joining the band on tour.

Land Of Talk announce NA Tour

Montreal-based band, Land Of Talk, announced a tour to support their upcoming record "Cloak and Cipher". Date are listed below - the band will be in Chicago on 9/21.

Montreal’s Land of Talk will blaze a trail across North America this fall on their most extensive headlining tour to date. The shows will follow the release of their radiant sophomore album, Cloak and Cipher, which lands on shelves August 24^th via Saddle Creek. The band will reach more fans than ever before during this two month tour, with dates slated across the country throughout September and October.

 

You may have last caught Land of Talk on the road opening for fellow Canadians Broken Social Scene on their late 2008 tour. Vocalist and songwriter Elizabeth Powell commanded the stage and joined BSS nightly, leaving fans and critic’s taking note, including The New York Times who raved “[Powell] proved herself a strong guitarist and a calmly arresting lead singer…She made a virtue of directness and brevity, letting small details speak for themselves.” Cloak and Cipher is poised to cement Powell’s status as one of Canada’s most exciting new music voices. Recorded in Montreal’s Breakglass Studios in the Fall of 2009 with producer Jace Lasek (Besnard Lakes, Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown), the album is a who’s who of the Montreal music scene with special guests including Patrick Watson, Jeremy Gara of Arcade Fire, and members of Stars, Wintersleep, Besnard Lakes, and Esmerine.

Jimmy Eat World gets "Invented"

Tempe, AZ-based band, Jimmy Eat World has announced plans to release it's new album. "Invented" will hit the streets on 9/28 and mark the return of producer Mark Trombino. Mark produced most of their work leading up to and including the Bleed American record.

September 28th, 2010 marks the release date of Jimmy Eat World's highly anticipated new album, Invented. Recorded in Tempe, Arizona at the band's Unit 2 studio, Jimmy Eat World reunited with Mark Trombino, the producer on the band's breakthrough album, Bleed American, and their seminal earlier albums, Static Prevails and Clarity. "We're very excited about Invented," said lead singer and guitarist Jim Adkins, "it was great reconnecting and creating an album with Mark Trombino, we can't wait for our fans to hear it." Fans will get their first taste of Invented when the first single "My Best Theory" hits the airwaves in August. Jimmy Eat World has a stellar history across Modern Rock radio with five top 10 hits. 

Invented marks the band's first studio album since 2007's Chase This Light which landed Jimmy Eat World's highest chart position of their career at #5 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. Jimmy Eat World's last release may have been three years ago but they've been busy. The boys took a break from the recording of Invented to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of their influential album, Clarity with a sold out national tour.

School Of Seven Bells announce tour

School of Seven Bells recently announced tour dates to support the new record that came out on 7/13. All of the dates are listed below- they will be in Chicago on 9/17. I haven't heard the new record yet but I'm looking forward to it.

Indie-pop trio SCHOOL OF SEVEN BELLS are releasing their sophomore album Disconnect from Desire today, July 13^th on Vagrant Records/Ghostly International. Produced by band member Benjamin Curtis and mixed by Jack Joseph Puig, the album was recorded in the band's home studio and mixed in Los Angeles at Ocean Way Recording. The follow-up to 2008's Alpinisms, Disconnect from Desire is a tremendous leap forward, evident in all elements of the band's intricate sound. The unique experience of playing live allowed the band to step out of their sometimes-insular creative process and explore a newfound connectivity with listeners.

 

In anticipation of the new record, SCHOOL OF SEVEN BELLS performed an in-studio at WNYC on Soundcheck. The segment featured stripped-down performances of the Disconnect from Desire tracks "Windstorm" and "I L U", as well as an interview with the band.
