Hurry Up, We're Dreaming

Finally got through all of the new M83 record.. It's good stuff but two discs might have been a little ambitious. This is the sixth record from the French band. Here are the tracks that got tagged with stars in iTunes and the video for my favorite song on the record..

DeXter at The Red Line [Chicago]



My friends in DeXter just announced some great news. First, they will be playing a show at the Red Line Tap in Chicago on 12/9/11. The Red Line Tap is located in Chicago's Roger's Park neighborhood. Show starts at 9pm and there are 3 bands.. $5 cover.

Second, they just established a Facebook page and posted a video from a recent show I attended at SPACE in Evanston. The song is currently unreleased and was incredible so go check it out.

Song of the day: Scattered Trees "Sympathy"

It’s been a whirlwind year for Scattered Trees. A little over a year ago, Scattered Trees was effectively broken up, with members of the band literally scattered all across the country. Then, lead singer Nate Eiseland’s father passed away, and as a tribute to his late father, Nate penned a series of songs on his acoustic guitar. With those acoustic songs in hand, the band came back together in Chicago and fleshed out the tracks, writing the songs that would become Sympathy. That album has been praised byNylon, RCRD LBL, No Depression, Consequence of Sound, Buzzine and others as an album that’s not to be missed. The band’s music has also been topping the Hype Machine charts.

We shared the anthemic “Breaking Bones” MP3 a few weeks ago and now the band has revealed the stylishly colorful and slightly risqué new video for the track. With a skittering beat, keyboards stabs and a transfixing vocal melody, “Breaking Bones” immediately submerges you into the album and explodes into a guitar-fueled chorus. Title track “Diamonds & Death” transforms from a minimal synth track into a dance floor behemoth. “I Found a Reason” is a pulsating summer anthem with a soaring refrain built on a foundation of rubbery bass, swooning synth and housey piano chords. The album’s quixotic nature juxtaposes dance floor stompers like “Watch Out” with experimental and throbbing psychedelic tracks like “Jellybean”.  Diamonds & Death is an unpredictable journey full of breathtaking epic song-scapes.
 
The two main creative engines behind VHS OR BETA’s decade-long career, Craig Pfunder and Mark Palgy, relocated to Brooklyn from Louisville over the last two years. If you will not be able to catch the band in NYC this summer, be sure to catch them live on a national tour with Ladytron!

Song of the Day: The Boxing Lesson "Muerta"

The Boxing Lesson is a group of audiophiles as much as musicians. The overall sound they create is a blend of many things; small sounds that build a stir and grand orchestrations that create movement. The Austin, TX band successfully combines expressive guitar rock and synthesized ambient tones on their new Muerta EP which chronicles a band's evolution over several years. 

Although they've been touted as "space rock", there is so much more going on here. The slow-burning songs that make up the Muerta EP are fantastically cohesive despite being recorded at several different studios with three different drummers. The Boxing Lesson accomplishes in four songs what many achieve on a full length. Each song projects a similar dark and moody vibe while retaining its own identity. Clocking in over 23 min, this is more of a mini-album than an EP. 

Founding member and songwriter Paul Waclawsky's lush electric guitar soundscapes and soaring vocals dance with Jaylinn Davidson's synth-bass lines, shimmering outer-space frequencies, and keyboard prowess. The band's stratospheric sound creates a rock journey whose destination is the dark corners of the mind.

The catchy and upbeat song will have you putting this song and video on repeat. Mosseri’s impeccable voice is accompanied by the smooth guitars of David Baldwin, Erick Eiser’s resonating keyboards and Jamie Alegre’s driving drums. The end result is perfection.

 

The Dig have peaked on the Music Specialty shows nationwide, with Electric Toys hitting #5 on the Album Charts, and “You’re Already Gone,” landing #10 on the Song Charts, and are quickly on their way to the top.

 

No stranger to the indie rock circuit, The Dig has toured with The Walkmen, Editors, The Antlers, White Rabbits, Portugal. The Man,  Rural Alberta Advantage, The Joy Formidable, Here We Go Magic, Dashboard Confessional, Thrice, Kevin Devine, and Bad Veins, among others. They have just returned from successful tours with Postelles, Glasvegas, and Beady Eyes.

Song of the Day: Chop Love Carry Fire "Want Nothing"

If you've followed indiePulse for a while you probably know I'm a big fan of Jeremy Toback's work. He sent me a note earlier this week to tell me about the launch of his latest project - a collaboration with Butch Norton - and I couldn't wait to start spreading the word. Chop Love Carry Fire is the name of the band and the new EP is available now.

The video was directed by Danny Toback, shot by Ted Hayash and edited by Eric Binns.
